What is incense?
Incense is the ritual of aromatic herbs burned to produce a fragrant scent to combine sacred atonements with euphonious smells.
The word “incense” is derived from the Latin word for “to burn.”
Incense has been used for thousands of years to honour the Gods and Nature Spirits and to create a scared space. In other aspects, incense burning can also be used as a meditational tool to help calm and de-stress the soul.
A study in 2008 showed that some resins elicit psychoactivity and can cause a response similar to an antidepressant.
In addition, a study in 2017 found that components from frankincense and myrrh resins had anti-inflammatory effects.
